This one, originally posted on X, shows Chip Guy reading Garrett Adelstein’s Beneath the Cards book. It’s not intended as a negative response to the book. Chip Guy has no opinion on whether Robbi Jade Lew was cheating or not.
What is presented in the book is akin to a case for the prosecution, rather than proof. The relevance of this is that all poker players should be aware that when cheating does happen, it’s not easy to prove it.
The outcome of this particular incident is almost irrelevant in the wider scheme of things. The key thing to take away is that poker is very much a pastime where caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) is a factor. There have been so many alleged cheating incidents in poker that it’s become an accepted risk, but is that really acceptable if the game is to survive in the long term?
New Chip Guy strips are published every Tuesday and Thursday.
